Horizon

Horizon
2016

Two-channel video installation, 6min 58sec, looped.

Shot by drone, Horizon traces the route over the sea on one of the shortest and thus most popular refugee routes from Kaş on the south- western Turkish shore to the island of Megisti on the edge of south-eastern Greece. While this route is one of the shortest in distance, it is also the start of a longer journey into the unknown.

The two-channel film captures the path the refugees take crossing the Mediterranean from two distinct angles: birds-eye and point-of-view. One evokes the danger of being surrounded by water, showing the dark and mysterious depths of the sea, and its unpredictability. The other shows the rocky cliffs of the Greek island approaching on the horizon, representing an equally terrifying and unclear future.
